Generations of cleaning staff from north Dublin have kept the Rotunda Hospital, which is the oldest maternity hospital in Ireland, neat and tidy for decades.
The hospital has been like “one big family” for staff who have worked there with their children and siblings, and according to Lisa Malone, who works in the hospital’s household department, the staff take pride in their work. She added that “It’s an accomplishment when you come out and you know you’ve left it clean.”
Lisa’s mother and aunt also worked in the hospital before they retired, and Lisa has been working at the hospital for 10 years.
Lisa, along with her mother and aunt were all born in the Rotunda, as were Lisa’s three children, and her first grandchild.
Lisa said that the atmosphere was fantastic at night and the midwives were brilliant – they had so much respect for her and added that “They were very good to work with – a very good team. They were just fabulous.”
