Never Ending Tour
I am a bit of a Dylan Fan. Have been for years. Though the closest I got to going to one of his concerts was looking through the fence at Athletic Park in Wellington NZ. Bob has been touring for years now. It is called the Never Ending Tour. Why does he keep touring? Why does he never stop? Well it might just be the love for music… the love of life on the road… the romance of the troubadour… but maybe it also has something to do with the craving for applause.
The desire for praise and recognition is natural enough…

We all love a bit of feedback. We all love to hear we are doing OK. A bit of praise and recognition can help us stay motivated. It is part of the human condition. We are social… and we thrive on encouragement.
But there is a down side to this. We can become dependent on the positive feedback. We can find we need more and more to stay motivated. We can find ourselves pulled and pushed in all kinds of directions by a craving for recognition and appreciation. We can find ourselves on our own ‘Never Ending Tour’, seeking the applause.
The truth is, appreciation of people never quite fills the gap.. And it never will.. And there is a reason for this.. The reason is, we were made for God.. and only in him do we find true rest. It is as we experience his love for us, that we find a true contentment.
Now if we are not used to talking to God, we may not find it easy to make time to be with him. Perhaps we race from one thing to another because we just feel so unworthy. Best way to start is to be honest. Speak to God as you would a friend. Put all your fears, doubts, regrets.. on the table. Give it all to him, ask him to help you hand it over. Learning to take time with God takes time, but it is something that we can all learn to do.
It is his life, that fills us and brings the satisfaction that deep down helps us get off the Never Ending Tour..
