Have you ever seen a space rocket being launched? Well, you’ll have seen that not everything that leaves the ground gets into space. Different sections fall away so that a small piece at the top of the rocket makes it all the way into orbit.
It wouldn’t make sense for the astronauts at the top of that rocket to spend too much time worrying about what happened to the first stage boosters. It’s their job to get on with the mission. But sometimes we spend our life looking back on how we got here and forgetting that we are here for a purpose.
St Paul put it this way
“.. forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” *
There are plenty of things in your past, some happy, some painful, that played a part in getting you to where you are. But if you see your life, as Paul did, as having a sense of mission, you cannot be all the time looking back.
As a wise person once said
“You cannot meditate on your past and your future at the same time. So, focus on your desired future.”
* Philippians 3:13-14
