Pep Guardiola won the Champions League in his very first season coaching Barcelona, he went on to win a further 13 trophies with the club over a four year period. In his next two year stint with Bayern Munich he won 7 trophies. He is without doubt one of the most successful football managers on the planet — and right now he is managing Manchester City.
Pep recently introduced a new regime at the club. He has cut off access to wi-fi or indeed a mobile network in the first team dressing room on the bottom floor of the multi million pound football academy. Not only that he’s insisted the players eat breakfast and lunch together every day at the training centre… and sometimes he asks the millionaire football players to have the evening meal together. His goal — to get the group of players to bond together — to gell — to become a team.
Guardiola recognises that at the end of the day, men will put in the extra effort for the people they are close to. That successful teams are built on a foundation of good relationships.
He also recognises that time spent looking at screens is the path of least resistance — and a blockage to the more demanding task of relating to other people.
This is a good time of year to have a fresh look at how much time we are putting into relationships.. What are we doing to nurture our relationship with God.. What are we doing to nurture our relationships with each other.
