Microsoft Surface Tablet – prospective October release

It is microsoft’s first attempt into pc dedicated hardware at the serious user. Using the new Windows 8 Operating System designed for touch screens. The Surface tablet looks like it will be available in two versions an iPad competing general user version, and a pro version. The pro version is reported to have a full version of Windows 8 whilst the entry level version will be a tablet version of the OS. Big in its favour is the ability to add USB devices easily and other periphials.

Operating Systems get an overhaul

The release of Apple OS X, mountain lion this July continues to bring more iphone style ease of use to the desktop, with a new reminders app, document and messaging across all devices including your desktop through icloud and other minor enhancements. Security is a big in the next release where the user can only choose to download approved and signed applications.

This autumn we will also see the next major release of Windows OS, being hailed as Windows 8. A complete redesign with the modern user in mind for ease of use and access to your most common used programmes.

Pricing for the new windows is reported to follow Apple’s price structure at just $40 upgrade – now we don’t yet know how that will translate into the irish market.  We will have to wait and see for that!
