David Turner – Church in Chains

2nd June 2026

David Turner was in studio to discuss the situation of Christians in China. In a wide-ranging discussion with Kieran, he explained the increasing restrictions placed on all churches in China requiring each church to register with the authorities, agree to promote the Chinese Communist Party and advance its socialist policies. The banning of children from churches has proved very difficult for Chinese Christians to accept. One Christian described the constant scrutiny of the Chinese authorities as like “living under a magnifying glass”.

David said that as a result of these and other restrictions, most Chinese Christians choose to worship in unregistered churches but that choice can lead to church raids, arrests and long prison sentences.

The discussion also focused on the work being carried out by Church in Chains to advocate for justice in China – he spoke about the presentation of a 5,000 signature petition to the Chinese Embassy in Dublin. Church in Chains has also been working with a partner organisation  to supply Children’s Bibles to Chinese Christians (who have no other way to obtain such resources).
