Lydia O’Kane – Mission Sunday
16th October 2026
World Mission Sunday being marked in Ireland and around the world this weekend,
This year is extra special as it is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
The day unites Catholics worldwide in prayer, solidarity, and support for the Church’s missionary work.
The theme chosen for this year is “One in Christ, United in Mission,” which is reminder that all Christians can play their part supporting the Church’s missionary life.
Lydia O’Kane spoke to Jennifer Donovan, Donor Engagement Manager with Misean Cara, an organisation that supports the overseas development of Irish Missionaries, and she began by asking her about the origins of Mission Sunday.
